Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.

By Greg Higgins

This scripture has been coming up over and over in my life for the past several years. I've had things happen in my life and circumstances that could drive people crazy. I had to learn a valuable lesson, though.

You see, I have tried to do things on my own. I have always been a person that likes to figure things out without asking a ton of questions. I realize it is a problem and I want to fix it and/or take care of it. To some, this shows independence.

To me, though, it's a source of pride. It's my way of showing people I can do something on my own without help. I can take care of the situation or fix the problem. It's me saying I don't need anyone or anything.

This couldn't be further from the truth, though. The reality of the situation is that I do need help. I always have. This is the realization God was trying to show me in the verse of scripture above. If I will seek Him and His righteousness, He will take care of the other needs in my life. And let's be honest isn't that more important than me being able to prove I can do something on my own?
