THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THE NAMES OF GOD

By Brenda Farmer

July 12, 2016

In our Sunday School Class, we studied last week about some of the scriptural Names of God.  We are continuing the study from The Battle Plan for Prayer*.  We were encouraged to learn as many of His Names as we can as we seek to know and worship the Lord more deeply.

We can see in the scripture below, that GOD’S NAMES reflect the following:

  • HIS INVISIBLE ATTRIBUTES/QUALTIES
  • HIS ETERNAL POWER
  • DIVINE NATURE

Romans 1:20 (NLT) 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky.  Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Some of God’s Names are Hebrew Names and describe who He is:

Yahwah  (Lord, God, Jehovah) - Ex 3:14-15 (NLT)  14 God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am.  Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.”  15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.  This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.

El Shaddai  (God Almighty) - Gen 17:1 (NLT)  1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.

Adonay  (Lord, Master) - Psalms 16:2 (NLT) 2 I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.”

My hope is that you will learn, as I am learning, more about the magnificence of God’s Hebrew Names.  I encourage you to call out to Him by Name when you seek answers to your prayers.

To be continued.  Be blessed and may the Favor of God rest upon you and yours!
